Active Membership is the thing that only a certain percentage of the company is ‘active’ within the company. It is a widely felt idea, but we can’t really talk about a problem until we know the scope of it. There is a problem though , how do you define being “active” within the company?
This has been a thing since at least the 90s
This was a thought had in 2014-03-27.
Number of people who did a show once in a year. Probably exclude fresher’s play. This is taking a little bit of time but should be possible to find out for quite far back.
Bedlam ball is Bedlam’s biggest social event of the year. If you go you are probably bedlam involved.
General Meetings are where we decide on everything company important, so who comes is probably a good show of who is involved in the company. There is a complex question of should we include EGMs.
Average attendance of the GM will give a useful number on the average number of people involved in Bedlam. Probably want to use the Median average. Mean might be useful due to the low number?
Unique attendance (i.e. number of people who attended a GM once) is probably an even better idea of those involved in bedlam.
Percentage of people who activated their membership on the website is a good indication of those who at least wanted to get involved in bedlam.
Some people just buy membership for the ticket discount because they want to see plays for some reason. This is very much part of the company and always has been. This is effectly a percentage of people who have given money to the company in a way.
One might argue that the only true members are those who stay for don’t stop believin’

|Year||Members||Shows||Ball||GM Med.||GM Mean||GM Uniq.||Website||Tickets|
Members actually registered on the website: around 295 (70%)
GM: average 51 people (50.8) (12%)
Amount of UoE students: 43380 (so 1% of the university was a Bedlam member)1
Membership= 258 (In Jan tho, it often grows throughout Feb)
GM: Average 66.5, that’s 26% percent(tho see above note)
This year seems surprising in comparison to our current statistics
GM: 78, 101, 95 (average 91 people)(30%)
Ball: 130 (43%)
Amount of UoE students:26951 (so 1% of the UoE students was a Bedlam member)1
1 I’m assuming here that all our members are UoE students, which is very untrue. There aren’t that many non-UoE student members though, and with the 1 percent it doesnt make that much of a difference.
