There’s quite a few ways to get involved in tech.
The Sunday afternoon before a show for lunctimes, Saturday and Sunday for mainterms. Shows usually do most of their rigging and focusing in this time. You can usually also help with building set.
Most times, there will be a get-in event on Facebook. If there is, check the times and just show up! Just approach someone, no matter how daunting that may seem. You can also message one of the event organisers beforehand and they’ll gladly help you.
The Improverts have a show each Friday, and you can come and tech the show! (Even if you have no experience, they’ll show you what to do). In weeks with lunchtimes the techworkshop starts at 21:00, weeks with mainterms it starts whenever the mainterm show comes down.
Often tech managers will be looking for people to operate shows, so make sure to check facebook (Bedlam Techies!) for posts asking for assistants/ops. Opping means that you will be controlling the lights or sound for a show. Don’t worry, it’s not as complicating as it sounds, and no experience is required.
The Tech manager is in charge of the tech in the building. Their job includes getting people involved, keeping the techstore and the techbox tidy, and keeping everything working.
FAULT REPORTING: Faults should be reported via email to email@example.com
Most Bedlam rig plans are created using a free application called LXFree which you can download
Those who have more experience with (or want to learn about) industry-standard drafting programs may want to try out Vectorworks, in which you can also simulate your lighting designs. It’s free for students!
There is a partial Vectorworks file available upon request from the tech manager.
